The selective sorting

How to reduce our waste and limit our impact on the environment ?

During the Environmental Day in Le Palais de l’Europe, we’ve interviewed few persons on the selective sorting. We’ve interviewed a representative from The CARF (Communauté de la Riviera Française) of the city of Menton.
First of all, let us consider that our waste come from the place we buy the products. So, why don't we reduce our waste directly in the supermarket ? After inter we have to limit the extra packagings out of our purchases. Consider the case of non perishable foodstuffs : we must favor the purchase-by-weight rather than the prefabricated packagings. Similary, the yogurts' packagings are often surrounded by cardboards' packagings. We should think our purchases over the products with less marketing, even they are less attractive, but more respectful towards the environment. However as this is not always easy, we shall rely more and more on the waste sorting, which allows the distribution of rubbish upon their type. There are the recycle waste (food for example), those to destroy (industrial waste) and the special ones from the military, the hospital… As for the so-called recycle waste, three possible trashcans are available to the people : the yellow one (for the paper, the plastics, cardboards, metal...), the green one (for glass) and the light green bin (for the household waste). Thus, we should compost organic waste to restrain our impact on the environment while creating some compost similar to the natural one. It is used within gardens in order to promote the growth of plants.

We have interviewed Solange Suard, a pensioner sport professor gone 26 months to do a world tour with her bicycle. During her travel, she was with the world population and she saw a lot of waste everywhere, in particular in the Gobi's desert, in China, where all the waste were left and elated by the ravens. In South Egypt, she saw plastic bag everywhere too. She said to us : « There aren't any waste in the poor country because they have nothing to polute, it's in the rich country where I saw the most polution’s problems ! ».

We can conclude more and more people care about the selective sorting and the planet but there is still a lot of educational work to do about our practices as consumers so we can make the world a cleaner, healthier place. The Environmental Day made the teenagers realize how important our impact on the planet is. While doing this article, we changed our mind on the selective sorting. We think this day really helped to make the youth sensitive about the sustainable development.
